Having consulted with Imaan members, and with the added luck of having a friend come and visit me in London, with a plan to buy scarves, I spent the first week of New Year trawling through the various places in London where one can buy Scarves and Hijab related paraphenalia.
Here I present my findings, please feel free to comment and add your own thoughts on the matter, I will then update the post to include your contributions!
East London
Whitechapel
The Market
whitechapel market extends from the corner of Cambridge Heath and Whitechapel road till the corner of Whitechapel and Court street. Here I have spotted one or two stalls that sell predominantly long pashmina style scarves and a few of the shiny turkish under scarf (bandana). Prices seem reasonable with the bandana costing about £3 (similar to prices in the Middle East, if that means anything to you).
Under the East London Mosque
There is a shop called “Arabian Nights” which stock some beautiful Jilbabs and Abayas, as well as dressy scarves. A bit pricey, but worth it for a special occassion.
Green Street
Getting off at the Upton Park Tube station (District and the Hammersmith and City lines), and turning left gets you onto the East Ends famous Green street. Along here my friend and found a few shops which sold long rectangular scarves and the Turkish underscarf, again at very resonable prices. Scarves at £3 and underscarf at £2 (they had a sale). The Islamic Impressions shop has a basement section where they also stock Abayas and Jilbabs.
Bethnal Green Road
I have not explored these shops personally, but have spotted a Hijab shop along there that looks promising.
West End
Shepherds Bush Market
This is a tiny outdoor market just opposite the Shepherds Bush Market tube station (Hammersmith and City Line), around the corner from Shepherds Bush station (Central Line). There are at least three very well stocked, and very reasonably priced Hijab shops there. This has to be my favourite place for Hijab shopping, mainly because of the variety. There my friend and I bought loads of underscarves, amira type scarves, rectangular scarves and square ones. They had different styles of bandanas, hijab pins etc.
I think I may be a bit biased towards this place, because just round the corner is “Mr Falafel”, a little Palestinian place specialising in falafel… and they do the proper sort!

wow, thanks for the information, guess really need it when I finally go to London ^_^, thanks!
glad you liked it
As-salamu alaikum,
I am thinking of making a trip to Sheperds Bush Market. However, before that could we kindly some pictures of the hijabs you purchased from there?
Also which are the best places for abayas?
- Cosmic Cook
Wa Alykom,
I’ll try to do that once I get a chance, but I personally did not buy that many, they were plain coloured square hijabs and 1 amira style hijab.
Abayas, I would suggest Green Street or the Arabian Nights shop in whitechapel.
Assalam aleikum,
mashallah, you have a good knowledge on shops. Very useful indeed!!! Thank you
May I also add, for those who like buying also on the net, that I’ve just started a small business selling beautiful Italian scarves online. All the scarves are quite elegant/unique and my Italian manufacturer produces some of the labels you find in House of Frasers. If you are interested you can visist http://www.bellissima-scarves.co.uk
Enjoy the experience!

ps. The falafel shop in Sheperds Bush is really the best one I tried so far.. a small shop, no spaces to sit (unless he changed his settings) but excellent falafel
Wa Alykom,
Thanks, actually I pestered quite a few people about this prior to investigating
I am aware of your shop, I am even on your mailing list, and you certainly have some beautiful scarves! Best of Luck to you
Falafel shops: there are a few, but Mr Falafel now has a seating area as well
Ha! I felt like someone was reading my mind with this post! Anyone who knows me knows how much I love Mr Falafel! I got all my friends hooked on it too. And it’s always s good idea to make friends with the stall holders in Shepherds Bush market; they’ll often give you little discounts if you become a regular customer like me!
lol

They dont have names (that I noticed anyway), they are just stalls in the market. Should be easy to find, it is across the road and to the left of the H&C tube station.
Gotta love the internet! Jazak’Allah for the great information. Definitely need to get some more hijabs, and this post just gave me a whole set of places to check out. Just moved to the UK, at uni and bought my current hijabs from the US. So I desperately need more, lol.

Wa Alykom
Well, there are a few bookshops near the East London Moque and attached to it (get off at Aldgate East station), also there is a bookshop in Regents Park Mosque. There is also a selection of books in the “Islamic Impressions” shop on Green street. If pressed for time and are bases in central London then just go to Regents Park Mosque (http://maps.google.com/maps/place?client=ubuntu&channel=fs&oe=utf-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=regents+park+mosque&fb=1&hq=regents+park+mosque&cid=5849281229489224012).
